Hemangiosarcoma Suspicions and Gut Feelings
In March of this year, I noticed Odie had a small blood-like blister on his side. A quick google search lead me down a path of fearing it was hemangiosarcoma again, presenting on the skin. I can't lose another dog after Max, and so soon, to the same disease I literally created this company to fight. So I brought him in to the Vet ASAP.
I'm sharing this hemangiosarcoma journey of advocacy to not only bring to light the disease progression, but to share how to notice changes and trust your gut when something feels off.
How to Advocate
The Vet aspirated it, it bled a little, but she wasn't too concerned about it at the time. Because I'm aware of the impacts of Hemangiosarcoma on Golden Retrievers, the lack of medical diagnostic and testing available, and how its their number 1 killer, I used my knowledge from my interview with Dr Joelle Fenger to advocate for him. I asked to have them ultrasound his spleen, lungs, heart and stomach. Everything checked out clear, and he didn't have any fluid where he shouldn't.
Fast forward to now, the growth is still present and changing ever so slightly. I've added images for your reference to check for on your own dogs. I'm having it removed and tested and will post the results as soon as I'm aware in a few weeks. In the meantime, I'm ensuring he gets proper nutrition and I've added in some powerful Mushroom formulas and cow's Colostrum that I was recommended for immune support from the Integrative Vet, Brookfield. I'm also exploring Essiac supplements, which I heard about from Animal Soul Connection owner, Alison Martin, a holistic animal communicator, in AZ, that also supports immune system and is cancer fighting for animals. He'll continue to have his daily exercise, enjoy his daily Farmer's Dog, Stella and Chewy, and live his best life. Stay tuned with pawsitive thoughts!
